The Carleton Place Canoe Club - It's Colourful Past and Exciting
Present
IN
POST-PRODUCTION
The Carleton Place Canoe Club is a genuine part
of the fabric of the Town and its history. It has touched almost every long time
resident at some point in their lives, and today they have been joined by many
newer residents who have become deeply and passionately involved in the Club.
Its long history is fascinating, and the many
individual stories are often inspiring, sometimes hilarious and always
compelling. When a small town like Carleton Place can boast three two-time
Olympians, many National Team members and several National Champions, that's
truly something special!
We at Newton Productions believe that this is a
story that must be told and preserved. That's why we decided to produce a
comprehensive documentary on the Canoe Club ranging from its inception in 1893
right up to the present day, 117 years later!
The film is being shot in stunning 1080-24P
High Definition with a film-like profile. The pictures in the accompanying slide
show are actual frame captures from the footage. While highly compressed and
reduced in size for the website, they hint at how great the film will look.
Listen to the CBC Ottawa Morning radio interview - August
17, 2010
As of this writing (August 3), we have already
filmed almost 20 hours of interviews, this year's annual regatta, numerous
practice sessions, the EOD regatta and time trials at the Rideau Canoe Club, the
Club's adult dragon boat team, the adult Master paddlers group, the Paddle All
program for children with special needs, and so on. There is still more filming
to be done, culminating with the official announcement of the Trillium Grant and
pep rally on August 9th at the Canoe Club.
During the many hours we have spent at the Club
working on this project, we have been delighted to see the positive life skills,
self confidence and work ethic that the younger members of Club are learning
from head coach Ryan Blair and his staff. The older team members are also doing
a great job of mentoring their younger colleagues. One of the greatest potential
benefits of this film is that it will help spread awareness of the Canoe Club
and the value that it provides to any residents who may not be familiar with it.
There is absolutely no cost to the Canoe Club
for this project. We are hoping that the people of Carleton Place, especially
any who are, or have been involved with the Canoe Club will support us in this
project by purchasing one or more copies of the finished film. Not only will it
make a great personal memento, it would also be a wonderful gift for family or
friends, especially those who have moved away from town.
The completed film will be available on DVD in
Carleton Place and the area this September. The price will be $18.95 each or
three for $52.50. HST is extra.
If there is sufficient interest in having the
film available high definition BluRay, we will also provide it in that format.
(It looks spectacular in HD!) Pricing for the BluRay version will be affected by
the number of copies wanted, though at this point we would expect it to be in
the $27 - $29 range.
We have hopes for eventual broadcast, though at
this point this is speculative.
